Process overview
Suppliers with recently launched or soon to launch devices, products, therapies and customized medicines were able to submit an online application from December 1, 2008 through January 31, 2009 to be considered to showcase their advancement at the Innovation Celebration.
To make sure we are debuting the latest revolutionary advancements, all suppliers were welcome to submit an application for the Innovation Celebration. However, any non-contracted supplier selected for the Innovation Celebration must agree to put their particular innovative product or service on contract with Premier within a specified period.
A multidisciplinary committee process was established for the review of qualifying applications. This team of Premier members and staff of varying backgrounds and expertise included:
- Clinical and other product planners
- Clinical field specialists
- Nurses
- Pharmacists
- Medical technologists
- Supply chain professionals
- Materials management executives
- Buyers
- Consultants
- Several others
This team objectively scored and ranked applications based on a wide range of criteria including:
- Date product was introduced into the market
- Potential to address and solve patient and/or healthcare related opportunities
- Ability to measure success
- Revolutionary nature of product/service
- Quality of application in articulating product benefits
- Evidence to support the review of included documentation
- Ability to demonstrate products at the Innovation Celebration
Primary reasons submissions were not selected:
- Not considered new technology
- Availability of similar product/service
- Lack of a difference from similar product or earlier iteration of same product
- Clinically questionable
- Limited scope
- Other drawbacks
Primary reasons applications were selected:
- Potential for improved patient outcomes
- Product considered ready for market
- Clinicians and others were excited about the product and eager to see the demonstration
