Background
The recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act included an estimated $36 billion in federal funds to incentivize healthcare providers' use of health information technology (HIT). In order to stay ahead of this important issue and help members of our alliance maximize these investments, Premier is forming a collaborative to share knowledge and best practices around HIT implementation that will reduce duplicative work in understanding and qualifying for incentive payments.
Evaluating systems, ensuring interoperability, integrating HIT into your organization's overall strategic plan and qualifying for federal funds are complex tasks that all hospitals will face in the coming years. By uniting, the collaborative will help our members navigate the maze of regulatory and legal challenges, eliminate the need to hire expensive consulting help to address common tasks, and share insights and best practices. This new collaborative will build on the successful models we've already created to initiate rapid and sustained improvements in healthcare. Moreover, through this collaborative, we will be able to partner with government and direct the nation's progress toward an electronically enabled healthcare system that enhances efficiencies and reduces costs.
The Premier HIT collaborative will be governed by a steering committee of experienced, leading CIOs from our membership, Premier staff experts and external health law counsel. Meetings will be held by audio conference on at least a monthly basis. The program may require member contributions shared among the participants to fund activities. Please submit the name of your representative to patrick_burke@premierinc.com.
As you know, Premier measures its success by the success of its members. We are committed to being your partner and advocate as we work to strategically implement technologies that are truly effective in improving the health of communities.
