Scott Pope, Pharm.D.

National Director
SafetySurveillor™
Premier

As national director for SafetySurveillor, Pope oversees the program that provides a powerful web-based tool designed to help clinicians become more efficient and positively impact the care of more patients on a daily basis.

Armed with SafetySurveillor, pharmacists and clinicians can optimize antimicrobial usage, enhance outcomes, and reduce the costs associated with inappropriate or unnecessary usage.

Pope joined Premier in 2007 and previously served as product director for SafetySurveillor. He also currently serves as adjunct assistant professor of pharmacy at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and associate clinical professor of pharmacy at Wingate (NC) University School of Pharmacy and as clinical pharmaceutical consultant for Gerson Lehrman Group.

Pope was the clinical pharmacy specialist for infectious diseases at Carolinas Medical Center before coming to Premier. His former positions also included: CEO for SD Pope Pharmacy Consulting LLC, Charlotte, NC; infectious diseases clinical specialist for Carolinas HealthCare System, Charlotte, NC; clinical pharmacist at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, NC; clinical instructor of pharmacy practice at Campbell University College of Pharmacy, Buies Creek, NC; and evaluator of clinical research presentations at the 34th Southeastern Residency Conference in Athens, GA. He also has served on the Pharmacoeconomics Speakers Bureau for Pfizer, Inc. and the Clinical Speakers Bureau for Elan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and was an advisory board member for Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals.

Pope has completed residencies at Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Duke University Medical Center (internal medicine/infectious diseases/academia specialty) and the pharmacy practice at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital (accredited by American Society of Health-System Pharmacists). He also has participated in pre-graduate internships at Henry Ford Hospital, Ohio Northern University Drug Information Center and Knox Community Hospital.

He has participated in clinical research as a primary investigator and study coordinator, and has a broad history as a didactic and clinical instructor at such institutions as University of North Carolina College of Pharmacy, Carolinas Medical Center, Campbell University College of Pharmacy, Duke University Medical Center and Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

A North Carolina registered pharmacist, Pope also is a member of a number of professional associations, including Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and North Carolina Association of Pharmacists.

Pope is published in a number of academic journals and industry publications, including Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Pharmacotherapy, Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy and Annals of Internal Medicine, and served as journal referee/pharmacotherapy for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, University HealthSystem Consortium.

Pope has presented on a wide variety of pharmaceutical topics for such organizations as North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and ASHP, and for clinical staff at such institutions as Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Campbell University.

He earned his doctorate of pharmacy degree (with a minor in business administration) from Ohio Northern University.
