Premier Cares Award criteria for nominations
Background
In America, many of us are fortunate to have access to some of the best healthcare available in the world. Through the development of breakthrough technologies and new pharmaceuticals, we are living longer, more active lives. Yet, not everyone in our nation can readily benefit from these advances. Despite continuing medical discoveries:
- We spend more on healthcare than any other country, yet millions of people are without health insurance.
- Millions more are "underinsured" and at financial risk if illness strikes.
- Thousands of communities lack adequate healthcare resources.
- Healthcare is not consistently available to everyone.
- The U.S. ranks behind many other industrialized nations in regard to infant mortality and longevity, with health problems concentrated among our minority populations.
The Cares Award is sponsored by Premier, one of the largest healthcare alliances in the United States, serving more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals and 80,000-plus other healthcare sites working together to improve healthcare quality and affordability.
