Premier healthcare alliance enhances labor management solution used by hospitals to increase patient safety, reduce costs

OperationsAdvisor (OA) Productivity now allows for daily data submission and labor practice reporting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 6, 2009) – The Premier healthcare alliance has released an enhanced version of its labor management solution used by hospitals to track labor productivity, performance and costs. OperationsAdvisor (OA) Productivity now allows Premier alliance members to submit data and analyze performance on a daily basis.

Targeting nursing units and other hospital cost centers that deal directly with patients, OA Daily Productivity uses data from a facility's time and attendance system, as well as patient volumes pulled from patient admit, discharge and transfer systems, to measure and assess employee productivity and appropriateness of staffing levels. In measuring staffing in this way, hospitals can have the information they need to ensure that the right staff is in the right place at the right time to provide high quality patient care.

"After extensive research into labor management best practice, Premier has designed a daily productivity system that provides information to line managers focused on managing to appropriate patient volumes," said Premier's incoming President and CEO Susan DeVore. "These types of reports are intended to provide managers comprehensive analysis of volumes and staffing practice by day of the week, as well as information to use for forecasting future staffing levels based upon historic performance and seasonality."

One new report, available on a daily basis, features a section correlating worked hours to patient volumes and is automatically e-mailed to managers. Another report captures up to five quarters of data at a daily resolution, allowing for trending on a 30, 60, 90, 180 or 360 day basis. The enhanced reporting capabilities are in addition to the existing biweekly or monthly productivity reporting featured in OA Productivity, which presents information in easy to understand graphical and tabular formats.

OA Productivity is designed to support an organization's labor management program by routinely monitoring employee productivity and performance, tracking the utilization of labor costs and aligning labor decisions with strategic objectives. The application has the ability to integrate quality measures, enabling all labor management decisions to include quality as a component.
