Premier Insurance Management Services honors Premier healthcare alliance hospitals for reducing liability, enhancing quality of care
Six hospitals are winners of the Premier AEIX Risk Management Award
CHARLOTTE, N.C. and WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 16, 2010) – Premier Insurance Management Services Inc. (PIMS) of the Premier healthcare alliance has honored six alliance member health systems with the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) Risk Management Awards, which are presented annually.
Behavioral Healthcare Providers of Fairview Health Services; Akron City Hospital of Summa Health System; Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth of Texas Health Resources; and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano of Texas Health Resources received the award on June 9 at the 2010 Premier Annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in Washington. All four shared best practices that were the basis for their awards in concurrent sessions during the Breakthroughs Conference. Additionally, Fairview Northland Medical Center and Texas Health Resources corporate office were recognized and presented their best practices at a February 2010 meeting with the AEIX Insurance Advisory Committee.
"These organizations have a clear image of what makes an exceptional healthcare provider, and Premier is honored to recognize them as industry leaders," said PIMS President Robert Dowdy. "AEIX Risk Management Award winners are recognized for specific projects that reduce liability while increasing safety, credibility of metrics and 'spreadability' of best practices."
Ninety-five hospitals and associated entities within AEIX, an excess liability risk retention group managed by PIMS, were eligible to apply for the award. Criteria for selection included whether or not the project demonstrably reduced cost and enhanced patient safety, as well as whether clear metrics were established to track and sustain success. A criterion scoring "spreadability," or how replicable the approach is for other healthcare systems, was also essential in the selection process. The criteria were numerically scored by a task force of corporate risk managers representing the Insurance Advisory Committee of AEIX.
