Supply Chain Awards

Premier announces top performing hospitals in June

Premier is pleased to present the second annual supply chain performance awards during a special ceremony at Premier's Annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in Nashville, TN, June 10-13, 2008.

Premier’s prestigious Supply Chain Excellence and Supply Chain Innovation awards were created to celebrate the innovative ideas that members have implemented to improve supply chain performance, as well as to recognize those members that are performing at the highest levels within their supply chain, as benchmarked against their peers. By celebrating the successes of these leading facilities, Premier aims to encourage all of its members to share and adopt new ideas to transform healthcare to optimum levels of performance.

Premier Supply Chain Excellence Award

The Supply Chain Excellence Award honors member hospitals for achieving superior supply expense performance as measured by SupplyFocus. The categories have been revised for 2008 to better reflect more stringent delineations – and thus, more accurate – peer groups. The new scoring method defines the top three hospitals (two winners and one honorable mention) in each of six categories, according to both size and type:

  • Community hospitals, both greater and less than the peer group median for acute beds in service;
  • Teaching/academic facilities, both greater and less than the peer group median for acute beds in service;
  • Critical access hospitals; and
  • IDNs.

Award criteria:

Four supply expense ratios, CMI-adjusted and summed, will identify the top performers:

  • Supply expense as a ratio of net patient revenue
  • Supply expense as a ratio of total operating expense
  • Supply expense per adjusted acute patient day
  • Supply expense per adjusted acute discharge

Premier Supply Chain Innovation Award

The Supply Chain Innovation Award recognizes member hospitals that have developed and implemented the most innovative, high-impact supply chain improvement ideas in their own organizations or by working with Premier to implement such improvement ideas throughout our membership. Winning ideas such as new products, programs, services, processes and tools must be in place and creating value.

Award criteria:

A judging panel of industry experts, Strategic Advisory Board members and Premier leadership read the entries.

  • Judging based on a 1 to 5 scale (1 being least or lowest; 5 being most or highest)
  • The sum of the judges’ scores determines the winners
  • Innovative nature of the idea
  • Has it been done elsewhere? Is it truly unique?
  • Value of idea to your organization or Premier’s membership
    • What is quantitative/qualitative impact?
    • What is return on investment?
