How Premier promotes an ethical and transparent supply chain

Working together to improve local healthcare: To protect scarce resources for patient care, the nation’s not-for-profit hospitals purchase most of their supplies collaboratively. Not-for-profit hospitals created Premier, in part, to facilitate their ability to conduct group purchasing. To assure that the needs of hospitals and patients come first, Premier strives to achieve the highest standards of ethics and transparency, exemplified by our industry-leading Code of Conduct. These are some of the ways in which Premier promotes an ethical and transparent supply chain:

A unique and powerful Code of Conduct: Premier’s Code of Conduct is based on the detailed recommendations of one of the nation’s leading business ethicists, who studied the group purchasing industry for more than a year. Premier’s Code is designed to protect patients first by assuring a fair, open purchasing process and protecting the ability of not-for-profit hospitals to safely reduce the cost of care through collaborative product evaluation and purchasing. Premier’s Code includes detailed provisions in the following areas:

Leadership for industry transparency: In addition to implementing its own Code of Conduct, Premier is a leader and founding member of the Healthcare Group Purchasing Industry Initiative (HGPII.) The Initiative is a voluntary association of healthcare GPOs created in 2005 to encourage and sustain best ethical and business conduct practices in the GPO industry.
