Performance excellence journey

Our commitment to excellence

Premier was founded in 1996 by not-for-profit hospitals to develop shared resources for performance improvement. It’s no surprise that such an organization is committed to a continuous journey toward performance excellence.

As we work with our members to transform American healthcare, we are guided by our values of Integrity, Passion for Performance, Innovation and Focus on People. Premier’s use of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria allows us to continuously improve by benchmarking against best practice organizations throughout the country.

Our Baldrige journey

Applying for the Malcolm Baldrige Award helps us to gain objective feedback from nationally trained Baldrige examiners. In 2005, after using the criteria internally for several years, we submitted our first formal application to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program and advanced to stage 2 - Consensus Review - of the three stage process.

In 2006, our application advanced to stage 3 - Site Visit Review - and we received a site visit in October 2006. (Site visit news release)

On November 21, 2006, President George W. Bush and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez announced Premier as a 2006 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award winner. (U.S. Department of Commerce news release) As a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, we look forward to sharing performance improvement knowledge and helping others in pursuit of performance excellence.
