Year one QUEST Top Performers
share tips for making it to the top
Participants in the Premier healthcare alliance’s voluntary QUEST: High Performing Hospitals initiative achieved significant first-year results in their three-year collaborative:
- reduced cost of care an average of $343 per patient
- increased delivery of every recommended patient care measure by 8.74 percentage points to deliver appropriate care an average of 86.3 percent of the time
- achieved a mortality rate 14 percent less than expected, saving 8,043 lives
Thirty-two of the 157 participating hospitals are top performers in each of the three measurement areas. To read the tips from a particular top performer, click on the hospital name below. To see the entire booklet, click on this link: Top Performers Booklet.
Each of the 32 top performers was asked to do the following:
- Choose one of the three QUEST measures to highlight
- Discuss briefly the most significant thing done to enable improvement in the highlighted measure
- Discuss briefly how participation in QUEST helps meet strategic goals or improve quality and safety while reducing costs
QUEST is designed to help participating hospitals and healthcare systems attain new performance levels. It builds on the success of the Premier/CMS Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (pay for performance) to develop next-generation quality, safety and cost metrics. The first QUEST class has participants in 31 states with a mix of urban-rural, large-small and teaching-non-teaching hospitals.
