Why are there two formats (HTML and text) for SafetyShare? What is the difference?
Many people today work on personal computers that have software capable of viewing content rich in graphics and/or animation, as well as allowing links to the World Wide Web. HTML stands for "hyper text markup language," a kind of format that while invisible, allows the user to do this.
The HTML version of SafetyShare is a graphic-rich version of the newsletter, with only headlines and brief summaries of all articles for the week. The full-text of each newsletter edition can be accessed by clicking on links labeled [Go to complete edition]. To obtain the full edition, you need to visit the Premier Safety Institute’s free Web site on the Internet. The HTML version of SafetyShare also allows you to quickly scan news by section and by headline, using "bookmarks" that navigate you through the newsletter.
The plain text version of SafetyShare does not require an Internet connection; the complete newsletter is provided within the message body of the e-mail.
My e-mail program allows me to view the HTML version of SafetyShare just fine, but I don't have an Internet connection. What should I do?
Connection to the Internet works completely independent of your computer's ability to view various file formats. If you can view HTML-encoded documents but have no Internet connection, there usually is no problem unless you need to link to the Internet to access content previewed in those documents. The HTML version of SafetyShare requires an Internet connection if you want to view an entire article. If all you need are headlines and one-sentence story summaries, you can still choose to receive the HTML newsletter. If you do not have an Internet connection and want full-text articles, you should choose to subscribe to the plain text newsletter.
Every time I go to click on a new link in Safety Share, I have to visit the Premier Safety Institute’s Web site and my browser opens a new window. How can I avoid this?
Clicking on [Go to complete edition] links in the HTML version of SafetyShare will open a "browser" window on your computer. (A browser is simply a free software program that launches every time you connect to the Internet.) Because the Premier Premier Safety Institute’s Web site is free, you will not need to log on to Premier's Web site. To avoid having your computer open a new browser window each time you select a new link from the newsletter, do not close your browser window. If your browser window blocks your view of the newsletter on screen, simply click inside the body of the newsletter (and the browser window will be "minimized") or click on the "minus" sign in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window and it will remain active but minimized, or hidden, until you need it again. Once you click on a news article link in SafetyShare, your browser will automatically activate the full edition of the newsletter on the Web.
I'm having problems viewing the HTML version of SafetyShare when it arrives in my e-mail inbox. What's the problem?
If you are experiencing problems viewing the HTML version of Safety Share, there may be several reasons for this:
- Your e-mail program, or software, may be incapable of reading HTML-encoded documents.
- Your company's "firewall," or security measures, will either reject the newsletter or corrupt the file, making it illegible.
- Your e-mail program, or software, is capable of reading HTML-encoded documents but you need to adjust your e-mail program or Internet browser settings. Please consult with the administrator of your e-mail or Internet system.
You can generally avoid any viewing problems by telling the Safety Institute you wish to receive SafetyShare in a "plain text" format. Simply go to the SafetyShare subscription page and fill out the form being sure to select the plain text version. Then simply unsubscribe to the HTML version by sending a blank email to leave-premier-safety-share@lyris.premierinc.com. If you have any additional problems, please contact the Premier Solution Center at 877.777.1552, or at solutioncenter@premierinc.com.
I’m having trouble downloading the files referred to in SafetyShare. Why?
This may be caused by:
- A bad or non-existing Internet connection
- Your company or personal "firewall," or security measures, will either reject the or corrupt the file, making it illegible.
- You do not have Microsoft Word 97 or later installed on your computer.
- You do not have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.
- A temporary, or "transient" condition on the Internet caused by heavy user traffic
Try accessing only one file at a time. If this doesn't solve the problem, try re-connecting to the Internet or re-booting your computer. If the problem persists, please contact your computer system administrator.
I'm having problems accessing Safety Share articles when I click on a link. Why?
In general, this is caused by:
- A bad or non-existing Internet connection
- A temporary, or "transient" condition on the Internet caused by heavy user traffic
- Premier's Internet site may be briefly "down" for maintenance
Try re-connecting to the Internet or re-booting your computer. If this does not solve the problem, please contact your computer system administrator or the Premier Solution Center at 877.777.1552.
I'd like to switch the format in which I receive SafetyShare. How can I do that?
This is very easy to do. First, you need to unsubscribe to the newsletter format you no longer wish to receive. Follow the unsubscribe instructions in your most recent newsletter (at the bottom). Then, go to the SafetyShare subscription page and register as a new subscriber for the format you wish. If you do not have an Internet connection, send an e-mail to the Premier Safety Institute at .
I'm having problems logging on to Premier's Web site.
Subscribers do not need to log into premierinc.com to read SafetyShare, a free, public newsletter. However, if you need to use the Premier Web site for other business, login problems are due mainly to four things:
- Premier's Internet site may be briefly "down" for maintenance
- Your user ID or password have expired (because you left a Premier hospital)
- You are attempting to use your user ID or password for Supply Chain Advisor
- Your browser is set to remember an old password
Sometimes, Windows prompts you to remember a password you've entered. This can cause problems when a password is changed. If a dialogue box prompts you with the message that this password is different than the one Windows has stored for this entry, make sure to choose the option that changes the password.
You should also ensure that you have entered your correct www.premierinc.com user ID and password, and then try again. You may also try refreshing your browser, re-connecting to the Internet, or re-booting your computer. If this does not solve the problem, please contact Premier Web Solutions at 704.733.5355, or the Premier Solution Center at 877.777.1552.
I'd like to forward an issue of SafetyShare to associates. How do I do this?
We encourage you to disperse the information in SafetyShare to those you think would be interested. To forward the newsletter in its entirety, simply open the email you wish to forward and select the forward button or menu item from your email program's toolbar. A new email containing the newsletter should open. Fill in the email address of the person to whom you would like to forward the newsletter, and send the email.
If you have problems forwarding the newsletter, consult your email program's help menu, or contact your computer system administrator or help desk.
I cannot open linked files that are called "pdfs." What is the problem?
At times, articles in SafetyShare refer to attachments that are in this format, such as "document.pdf." This kind of document is produced by software called Adobe Acrobat, and can be viewed and downloaded using Adobe's free software. Download the Adobe Acrobat Reader free at the company's Web site at www.adobe.com.
I cannot view graphics in the newsletter. Why?
While text is easily viewed, any photos or graphics in the HTML version of SafetyShare will not appear unless you are working on a computer that has a "live" Internet connection. Check settings on your e-mail program and Internet browsers to enable graphics. Consult with the administrator of your e-mail or Internet system.
Can I read SafetyShare offline?
Yes and no. The HTML version is a graphic-rich version of the newsletter, with only headlines and brief summaries of all articles for the week. The e-newsletter itself can be read without an Internet connection, though some of the graphics may not appear. To obtain the full text of each edition, however, you need to visit the Premier Safety Institute's free Web site on the Internet. Full-text versions of each edition can be downloaded by clicking on links labeled [Go to complete edition]. The plain text version of SafetyShare does not require an Internet connection; the complete newsletter is provided within the message body of the e-mail. However, downloads and hyperlinks referred to in the articles will not be accessible without visiting the Safety Web.
