- The National Strategic Plan For Emergency Department Management of Outbreaks of Novel H1N1 Influenza was produced under contract to the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the Emergency Care Coordination Center (ECCC). This document was developed in collaboration with ASPR, ECCC and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).

Hurricane - Disaster evacuation centers; influenza
- Prevention of influenza and respiratory illnesses
The hurricanes of 2005 and increased density of people in close quarters (eg shelters, evacuation centers) increase the opportunity for transmission of influenza and other respiratory illnesses. The CDC has provided guidance documents that outline steps to reduce risk of respiratory illness in evacuation centers. The Joint Commission partnered with APIC, CDC, NDIF and SHEA and has released a 100-page monograph entitled "Providing a Safer Environment for Health Care Personnel and Patients through Influenza Vaccination: Strategies from Research and Practice." The free document includes information about seasonal influenza and its vaccine; barriers to successful programs and strategies for overcoming them; and examples of successful initiatives organizations have used to improve their influenza vaccination rates.

- WHO Checklist for novel A (H1N1)
New resources have been released by the World Health Organization (WHO) related to the A (H1N1) influenza. The checklist addresses what to do upon the patient’s arrival to the clinical setting, what to do in the initial assessment, supportive therapies for initial and ongoing patient management, what to do before patient transport or transfer, and other important information related to the various stages of the management of the patient.

A complimentary planning tool is available to help the nation’s nursing homes prepare for an influenza pandemic. The new resource is courtesy of NJHA supported by grant funding. Planning Today for a Pandemic Tomorrow: A Toolkit for Nursing Facilities provides nursing homes with an assessment and planning tool, as well as checklists, sample policies, forms and helpful weblinks. The guide permits facilities to review existing policies and procedures, identify gaps, develop new policies and procedures, and generate a plan that will facilitate a more effective response during a crisis. This study "Nonpharmaceutical interventions implemented by U.S. cities during the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic (Abstract)" by Merkel and colleagues examined the implementation of nonpharmaceutical interventions for epidemic mitigation in 43 cities in the continental United States from September 8, 1918, through February 22, 1919, and found a strong association between early, sustained, and layered application of nonpharmaceutical interventions and mitigating the consequences of the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic in the United States. - Tools for immunization "standing orders" - LTC
