U.S. News & World Report: “Value is the new economy of the health care system and measurement is its currency,” says Susan DeVore, president and CEO of Premier Inc., a quality-improvement alliance of 3,750 hospitals and tens of thousands of other health care providers. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) and other legislative and regulatory reforms may have provided the initial nudge toward value-based care, but rising costs and heightened competition have sealed the deal, DeVore says. Health care institutions, if they are going to survive, must become more efficient and provide higher value care to patients.
