Hildegard House Wins National Award and $100,000 for Community Initiative

CHARLOTTE, NC & LOUISVILLE, KY — Hildegard House, a non-profit organization providing a home and compassionate care for individuals at the end of life in Louisville, has received the 26th annual Monroe E. Trout Premier Cares Award and a $100,000 cash prize from Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading healthcare improvement company.

Sponsored by Premier and its alliance of approximately 3,900 hospitals and health systems and approximately 150,000 other provider organizations, the Premier Cares Award recognizes exemplary efforts by not-for-profit community organizations to improve the health of populations in need.

“Providing wellness and comfort to a patient population that is often overlooked, Hildegard House sets an excellent example for Premier’s alliance and the healthcare industry overall,” said Susan DeVore, President and CEO, Premier. “We are humbled by and feel honored to recognize their warm and loving efforts to support people on their journey to peace.”

Hildegard House, Kentucky’s first and only comfort care home, is a home for those in need of support throughout the dying process so that they may die with dignity. Hildegard House provides personalized care to each resident without charge. As with any home, meals, laundry, housekeeping and companionship are part of the care services that Hildegard House provides. More than 60 volunteers commit to at least five hours per week of tender, compassionate and personal care to the home’s residents as they die with dignity. Hildegard House partners with local hospice agency Hosparus Health to ensure each resident can access hospice services.

“No one should have to die alone,” said Karen Cassidy, Executive Director of Hildegard House. “Our mission is to provide a home-like setting to those who don’t have any caregivers or a home so that they can access hospice services. In our home, every individual has access to comfort, dignity and someone who cares. With the help of our community and volunteers, we are a place of emotional, spiritual and social support for our residents. Thank you to Premier for recognizing the incredible work of the Hildegard House’s Compassionate Companions. We are thrilled to receive this award, as well as the funds that will be used to ensure every moment is a special and comfortable one for those nearing the end of life.”

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Phil Marshall, President of Hosparus Health, a Hildegard House partner, recognized Hildegard House for the Premier Cares Award on July 3, 2018 during a press conference held at the home. Hildegard House was also recognized in front of more than 4,500 healthcare industry peers on June 21, 2018 at Premier’s annual Breakthroughs conference.

A panel of national healthcare leaders from the Premier alliance selects the Premier Cares Award winner each year. The program spotlights community-based healthcare initiatives and helps other organizations learn to replicate the unique programs, as well as provides funding support to help winners further improve their programs. The program has provided more than $3 million to more than 100 organizations nationwide.
