Premier Congratulates Liz Fowler on Being Named Head of CMMI

Premier congratulates Liz Fowler, a proven healthcare policy veteran, on being tapped to head the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). Fowler is the ideal leader to continue CMMI’s important work to incent providers to move away from fee-for-service and toward alternative payment models. Unshackled from fee-for-service, these models were instrumental in helping healthcare providers not only quickly adapt care to respond to the unique conditions of the pandemic, but also better weather the financial volatility that has stemmed from it. Healthcare providers have made tremendous progress in leveraging value-based care to gain insight into the many forces that influence healthcare and to improve outcomes and close care gaps in their communities. We look forward to working with Fowler to supercharge these efforts by creating greater incentives for providers to make these investments and remove barriers to even greater cost savings, better care coordination and faster movement to two-sided risk.
