Premier submitted comments on the proposed rule issued by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which is aimed at removing barriers to coordinated care and allowing additional sharing of information among healthcare providers and programs assisting patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). In the rule, SAMHSA proposes changes to the regulations governing the confidentiality of SUD patient records, 42 CFR Part 2 (Part 2).
While expressing support for the overall intent of the rule and specific proposals, Premier urges the agency to take additional steps to expand providers’ access to substance use information in order to improve patient safety and care coordination.
