Statement on Proposed Changes to the HIPAA Privacy Rule

Premier appreciates HHS proposing Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) modifications intended to streamline the transition to improved care coordination and case management in value-based healthcare. Effective care management programs benefit from ongoing communications among stakeholders, especially providers, clinicians, patients and payors.
We look forward to working with the Biden administration to reduce the additional burdens and complexity on healthcare providers we believe this rule imposes, including the 180-day compliance period during the COVID-19 public health emergency and the shortened time frame within which covered entities must provide protected health information in response to individuals’ requests.
