Statement on the Strategic National Stockpile Executive Order

Premier applauds today’s announcement augmenting the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) for future pandemics. The expansion of the SNS aligns with Premier’s recommendations to bolster the types of medical supplies in the stockpile, ensure a 90-day supply for all product categories and work with the private sector to rotate inventory.

Moving forward, Premier believes the SNS can be strengthened by creating a streamlined and efficient process for accessing product from the SNS, reporting distributions made from the SNS, and working with organizations such as Premier to help aggregate purchasing volume and keep prices competitive.

Regarding the development of an IT systems, rather than reinventing the wheel, the government should look to proven, private sector solutions that predict needed supplies and resources in a pandemic. These technologies exist today and can be deployed nationwide.

Working together in a public-private manner, Premier looks forward to working with the government to develop a cohesive and holistic national strategy for augmenting the SNS and ensuring preparedness.
