"We knew right away we needed to address that," Bain said. "We've kind of got this 'never again' approach that we never want to find ourselves in the position our hospitals faced a year ago."
Premier has taken a firm stance during Covid-19 in favor of more domestic manufacturing — a stance Lange also thinks is important. This isn't Premier's first partnership to support it. The firm is also partnering with Prestige Ameritech on masks and DeRoyal Industries on medical gowns. Premier is working with DeRoyal to stand up a factory in Tennessee by October, Bain said.
Bain said the Premier-Honeywell partnership is about encouraging supply chain resilience. It is also about diversifying sources and providing a backstop for supplies in case another interruption arises. Investing in domestic products sidesteps port delays and congestion related to off-shore imports, he said.
