Practice Greenhealth recognizes Premier for 14th year in a row
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 20, 2016) — Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading healthcare improvement company, has been recognized for environmental excellence by Practice Greenhealth, a leading healthcare organization driving environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
For the 14th year in a row, Premier has received the Champion for Change Award for its GreenHealthy® environmental leadership program, collaboration with alliance member health systems on environmentally preferable purchasing and energy efficiency initiatives, as well as daily, company-wide efforts to make informed decisions about sustainable products, services and business practices.

As a company, Premier recycles or reuses 75 percent of solid waste from its corporate office, which is LEED certified. Premier employees pledge to make a personal commitment to reduce their carbon footprint each year. In addition, over the past year Premier offered its members more than 230 contracts with safer and more environmentally friendly products, including 132,000 latex-free products and more than 50,000 environmentally preferable products and services, such as:
- Hormone and steroid-free chicken products packaged with recycled materials.
- Intravenous delivery and hemodynamic monitoring products without polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP).
- Baby products free of paraben, sulfate, fragrance and other potentially harmful contaminants.
- Floor care equipment, services and products that have third-party certification.
Premier also offers healthcare energy reduction and efficiency products from contracted suppliers, energy procurement services and analytics, and a comprehensive website that includes best practices on how to build and sustain a green healthcare environment by reducing carbon footprints and increasing the use of renewable energy sources.
In addition, Premier is a supporting partner for the Healthier Hospitals Initiative, a national campaign to improve sustainability in the healthcare sector. Initiative goals include energy reduction along with safer chemicals, environmentally preferable purchasing and waste reduction.
