Premier commends the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center for launching the next generation voluntary bundled payment model to foster greater innovation and collaboration across the care continuum. As a Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) convener and advisor to providers in the Comprehensive Joint Replacement (CJR) and Oncology Care Models, Premier has worked with more than 200 hospitals and physician groups across the nation to improve costs and patient outcomes. The new Model, BPCI Advanced (or the Model), can build on the progress made under the BPCI program to improve quality and reduce costs.

We are also extremely pleased that BPCI Advanced will support participation as an alternative payment model (APM) under MACRA’s Quality Payment Program, providing an extra incentive to participate in the program. The Model is essential for APMs and qualifying eligible clinicians to earn the Quality Payment Program’s five percent bonus.

The announcement of BPCI Advanced signals CMS’s commitment to continuing value-based care delivery initiatives. Premier supports voluntary models as they allow providers to choose the most appropriate option for their populations. We look forward to working with CMS and our provider members that choose to participate in the Model this year. Premier experts support providers using specific analytics designed for bundled payments and implementation resources to enable success.
