The Golden Bridge Awards: Premier, Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Michael J. Alkire has just been named a winner of the sixth annual 2014 Golden Bridge Awards. He is a Gold Award winner for COO of the Year and the only winner in this category. The highly esteemed program recognizes and honors the world’s best in organizational performance, products, services, innovations, executives and management teams from every major industry in the world.

Alkire is passionate in his leadership at Premier to operationalize the use of science and comparative data to transform healthcare. He has led Premier to launch new technology innovations, lower the cost of supplies for its members, and create the first measures of healthcare waste to reduce unjustified variation in healthcare. He also played a critical role in the president and Congress taking corrective action against drug shortages, resulting in the enactment of two pieces of bipartisan legislation. Alkire drove advocacy around the issue, testifying before Congress.

As COO, Alkire leads the continued integration of Premier’s clinical, financial, supply chain and operational performance improvement offerings helping member hospitals and health systems provide higher quality care at a better cost.
