Healthcare Financial Management Association: Healthcare IT’s costs, lack of interoperability, and lack of funding or ROI were the leading challenges to its use by accountable care organizations (ACOs), a new survey found. All 62 of the ACOs responding to a survey this summer conducted by Premier Inc. and the eHealth Initiative reported that access to data from external organizations was challenging. Specific data-sharing challenges included 88 percent of ACOs experiencing difficulty integrating data from disparate sources and 83 percent facing stumbling blocks in integrating technology analytics into their workflows. “We know that data access, interoperability, and cost remain the biggest barriers to accelerating the work with ACOs,” Bryan Bowles, vice president, population health solution management for Premier, said in a conference call on the findings.
