Statement on Emergency Use Approval for Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine

Today’s FDA emergency use approval of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine is further proof of the remarkable power of science, innovation and American know-how. This is another important step on the road to COVID-19 recovery.

Alongside the recently approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, the availability of an additional 20 million Moderna vaccine doses through 2020 will be vital to helping expand U.S. vaccination efforts through the end of the year. The Moderna vaccine’s less stringent storage requirements at -20°C also make it a more viable candidate for access and distribution in rural and remote communities.

Despite this continued progress, nationwide COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration remains the supply chain and population health challenge of the pandemic. Premier will continue to share education, best practices and solutions ─ while working closely with our members to help ensure this unprecedented campaign runs as smoothly as possible.

The first U.S. COVID-19 vaccines administered at our member hospitals and other facilities across the country this week are a scientific triumph and source of pride ─ and for many Americans, a sign of hope heading into the New Year.
